After being let go of her contract at MGM, Joan Crawford soon signed a contract to be under the Warner Brothers Roster

Known as the “Fourth Warner Brother” Bette Davis fought for what she wanted
Joan Crawford & Bette Davis ruled the Warner Brother’s lot in the 1940’s. Crawford, previously at MGM sought dramatic roles and scored when she was cast in Mildred Pierce (1945). Bette Davis was with Warner Bros. since 1932. Some of her big hits included Dark Victory (1939), and Now, Voyager (1942). Davis was known to be very selective and picky for the roles she wanted. She initially turned down the role of Mildred Pierce whereas the part was finally given to Crawford. Bette and Joan were a part of one of Hollywood’s original feuds. Some aspects stemmed from Bette’s jealously of Joan’s love interests such as Clark Gable and Franchot Tone. Franchot Tone was significant because Joan married the man she fell in love with. The feud was brought to the forefront when they starred together in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962).
